white block #1

I've always wanted to make a white patchwork quilt with little bit of colour but didn't know where to start so this idea went back to the sketch book. After a year and lots of doodles, scrambled ideas, sketches I came to a conclusion that if I don't start it now then I'll never do it. I've decided to use white fabric scraps from my dresses..so I guess this will be a sort of memory quilt.

Here is the first block...

top half of the block-crocheted circle with some french knots, kantha stitches and pleats, fly stitches..

bottom half of the block-pin tuck, piping, bullion loops, needle lace, a shisha mirror, blanket stitches, sheaf stitches, ribbed wheel, cross stitches, herringbone with running stitches over a seam...

mystery project a.k.a floral wreath

We've had heavy rains this season which is very good..almost 20 cm rainfall was recorded this week in the place where I live..
I had to stay indoors most of the time so I spent my time planning some new projects, weaving and adding more stitches to the floral wreath project..

so far a quarter of the wreath is completed.

scrappy squares...

I have boxes full of left over #20 size Anchor crochet cotton threads from earlier projects. My mother and I leave our thread/fabric scraps in the same place so it was easier to sort them out.

With no plan in my mind I began crocheting small squares...

I joined some of the squares with black thread.

Initially I thought black might over power the other colours but now I kind of like it..

But I am still not sure whether to go with black or change it.Please feel free to leave your thoughts..

Wip - Stole

I was always fascinated by handloom fabrics and one of my wishes was to learn the art of weaving someday. I'm so happy that I was able to do that this year.
After learning the basics from a master weaver my friend and I decided to weave a stole.

Close up of the pattern..

There are a couple of mistakes and some tension issues but I will work harder to get it correct...

I was really worried whether I'll be able to remember all the math and get the pattern correct but after few hours of weaving I'm in a happy place..

Fifth year...

Today this blog is entering fifth year and I just popped in to thank y'all for your support and love.
I can't sign off without showing an embroidered piece today so here it is..
A small purse with shisha embroidery.

The ground fabric is muga silk and I've used both cotton and silk threads for the embroidery.

Stitch tutorial - German blanket stitch

A slight twist adds an interesting effect to a simple stitch.
This stitch looks like knotted blanket / up and down blanket stitch but it's much easier to work.

Step 1 – Make a pair of slant blanket stitches as shown.

Step 2 – Pass the needle and thread through both the blanket stitches from right to left without picking up the fabric and pull the needle.

Step 3 – Repeat step 1.

Step 4 – Repeat step 2.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until end.

a chain stitch filling which is a part of a sampler stitched for a beginner class...

You all know that I am a terrible photographer... so I have been trying to learn how to take better photographs and also trying to understand my camera better for the past few days...

Stylized Indian horse

I have finished another project 'stylized Indian horse' this week...tada!
working with shades of red was kind of challenge ...I was worried whether I'll be able to achieve balance both in terms of color and stitches.

But am happy with the result...
